Saint Francis of Assisi called animals “brother” or “sister,” and he encouraged them to praise God. He walked through the streets and byways, inviting everyone to sing with him. According to tradition, he once came upon an almond tree, and said, “Brother Almond, speak to me of God.” And the almond tree blossomed. Saint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals, archaeologists; ecology, Italy, merchants, messengers, and
metal workers. Saint Francis, pray for us.
