Saint Mary of Magdala is one of Jesus’ most celebrated disciples. According to Mark 16:9–10 and John 20:14–17, she was the first person to see the resurrected Christ. She was one of the women who accompanied and supported Jesus in Galilee (Luke 8:1–2), and all four canonical Gospels testify that she witnessed Jesus’ crucifixion and burial. John 19:25–26 says that she stood by the cross, near the Virgin Mary and the unidentified Apostle whom Jesus loved.
