Saint Nicholas of Myra was an early Christian bishop of Greek descent. The best-known story him tells of his charity toward a poor man who was unable to provide dowries for his three daughters so they could be married. Rather than see them forced into prostitution, Nicholas secretly tossed a bag of gold through the poor man’s window on three separate occasions, thus enabling the daughters to be married. Saint Nicholas is a patron saint of bakers, brides and grooms, children, Greece, pawnbrokers, and travelers. Saint Nicholas, pray for us.
